I was just going around Basantapur Area to take some photos and this is what I came across. This is what you will see in many places in Kathmandu. After the customers drinks the tea in this glass this is where it goes for washing, on a plastic bowl used by most of the small squeezed hotel to do their dish washing. Are you still interested in drinking tea around Kathmandu’s small shops and hotels?  The service is express though. Choice is yours. Well, welcome to Kathmandu Nepal.

This is a Gurkha Widows’ Story

N-epal.com --- Mrs Limbu!

The old lady here is Mrs. Limbu (Limbuni) she was the chief guest on the day Lumley visited Dharan. Her husband Mr. Limbu had joined the British Gurkhas before WW2. Soon after their marriage the husband was in WW2 fighting for the British crown along with the fellow Gurkha soldiers. No one knows if he is still alive. Even till this day she is waiting for her husband. Does the British Government know about her husband’s status? Does the British Government provide her with pension and widow or family benefits? No, nothing from the British Government, no letters, no pension, no help or allowances from the British Crown/Government for whom her husband fought and served as a Gurkha soldier. Her husband did not hold anything back: life, his newly married wife, families. This old lady is still waiting for her husband with great hope that one day he will come home. This hope of her’s has turned from hours to days, weeks, months, years and may be her lifetime. Today she lives in a  small village called Gacchia in Morang District in Eastern Nepal.
If you want photos and documentary on her then feel free to contact:
www.IkimaNepal.com

This is NOT a British story.
This is a Nepalese Story.
This is the story of Gurkhas and their Wives and Families.

All the young Gurkhas these days are happy to settle in the United Kingdom with their families. But the real and brave Gurkhas the old folks who fought for the British and their interest in WW I, WW II and Malaya who have also won VCs and many other recommendations has been neglected. What about the Gurkha widows?

Would be nice for young Gurkhas to be grateful and consider the older Gurkhas and their widows. The Gurkahs are taught to respect and obey their senior even if they are senior by 1 number. Wish these young Gurkhas would bring this principle into use in regards to older retired Gurkhas and Gurkha widows’ need.

But what is the British Government doing going through useless time wasting procedures? Gurkhas has been loyal, faithful and honest to the British people and the Government they have elected. Now, the British people and the Government should also do the same in return, be honest and faithful in Gurkhas pension and privileges.

N-epal.com --- Joanna Lumley!

Lumley’s visit last year was supposed to be a private visit, but turned to be like the head of the state profile visit. Unknown to many Joanna Lumley became somebody within a week of her visit to Nepal. Her visit to Nepal was regarded as a low profile visit, but when the news spread out amongst the Gurkhas and their families of her arrival. The Gurkhas and their wives and family member from various parts of Nepal turned up at the Kathmandu International Airport to meet and greet her. Media was made aware of this so the all sorts of journos turned up at the scene for the reporting. Ms Lumley, the little known British actress was walking the walk of her life as a celebrity on a carpet to stardom.
She was met and greeted like the head of a state. She met with both the PM and President of Nepal. After 2-3 days she was supposed to arrive at Dharan at 12 noon after visiting Damak, Jhapa. But they were delayed by 3-4 hours. She and her team arrived only at around 4-5pm. We waited for her for hours to take this shot of Ms. Lumley. She was flying high among the Gurkahs and their families.

Chintan Chautari Restaurant - Itahari, Sunsari - Nepal. Looking towards the east, this house look alike across the Tangra Khola is not a house at all. It was specially just built for one time wedding, similar to the ones you see built for movie set.

You can sit outside but be warned, all the dust of Itahari will be on your food and your plate and drinks. Trust me dust is not in the menu and you don’t have to order or pay for it, but you will be served as a bonus.

N-epal.com --- KFC!

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) - The first and the only KFC store in the whole of Nepal, country with the population of about 26 million. The store stands on the west side of Durbar Marga (King’s Way) facing east. I believe it is the same place where once now historical Niraula’s ice-cream used to be.

N-epal.com --- KFC!

Inside look of the first KFC store of Nepal. Left hand side is the service desk and on the right hand side are tall chairs and chest high long food table. Chairs are little bit dangerous to sit on as it wobbles and you have more chance of falling from it. It’s not strong and stable like the ones you will find in Australia or US.
